My Story
Hi, I’m Romina, founder and designer of Studio Romy BW.
Fashion has always been part of who I am. My journey has taken me across different countries, cultures and experiences, shaping both my personal life and my creative vision.
I was born in Rome, raised in Italy with Sri Lankan roots, and over the years I’ve lived in Rome, Manchester, Birmingham, London, Madrid, Berlin, Munich and Lisbon. Every city has left a unique mark on me, broadening my perspective and teaching me something through its people, traditions, architecture and way of life. These experiences have shaped the way I see fashion today, where every garment carries influences from different cultures while remaining timeless and authentic.
My passion for fashion led me to earn two degrees in Fashion Design, one in Italy and another in the United Kingdom. Along the way, I also worked as a hip-hop dance instructor and model, experiences that taught me that clothing is more than something we wear, it is part of how we express ourselves, move and feel.
Life then gave me my greatest inspiration: becoming the mother of three wonderful boys. Motherhood changed my perspective on fashion. I wanted clothing that could be elegant yet comfortable, timeless yet practical, luxurious yet wearable every day.
That vision became Studio Romy BW.
Every garment I create is thoughtfully designed and handcrafted with attention to every detail. Whether it’s a bespoke piece, a made-to-measure garment or an alteration, my goal is always the same: to create something that feels uniquely yours.
The identity of Studio Romy BW is represented by black, white and grey. Black reflects strength and elegance. White represents purity, balance and new beginnings. Grey symbolizes the harmony created when contrasts come together.
Today, my atelier is based in Lisbon, Portugal, where I welcome clients by appointment while also collaborating remotely with clients around the world.
I believe fashion should never simply follow trends. It should tell a story, celebrate individuality and make every person feel confident in their own skin.
(Being married to a Spaniard has taught me that, just like black and white coexist to create harmony through contrast, different cultures, colours and traditions come together to build meaningful and lasting connections.
